Well, Harry & Potter connects me slightly differently to my focused 🚴♂️ ride today. Apparently the Glenfinnan Viaduct is linked to fantasy around Harry Potter but my connection goes rather back to work in South Korea and a lovely dog 🐕🦺 named Potter.

We have now completed 11 of the total 29 locks including 8 at Neptune’s Staircase, an impressive construction dated back to 1811!
An international group of four boats got lifted up, one each from Scotland, America, Sweden and ourselves under German flag. Two Hallberg-Rassy!
Quickly it becomes a routine. Support from the local team is outstanding.
We will stay in Banavie for the night.

Today‘s focus ride covered one of the famous Slate Islands – Easdale. It not only used to be the center of the Scottish slate industry for almost three centuries (!) but still, until today, remains the smallest of the inhabited Inner Hebrides Islands.
A more than remarkable international event taking place here are the World Stone Skimming Championships 😅 hosted every year, in September.

Today‘s ride into the outskirts of Oban can be summarized under BBC. Strolling around over nice country roads took me to three highlights.

We got into Oban just before the forecasted rain front, gusting 25kn, started to pass through. Even had time for a short but wet walk into town.
Once back on the boat a very friendly armada of sailing boats came in, all part of the Weekly Highland Yachting Week – its 75th anniversary. About 100 boats need to find space. Two of them have now moored alongside ourselves! It will get busy in the Pub!
