Cap de la Hague

Passing Cap de la Hague in pleasant conditions and with favourite currents from behind.

🧐 French mooring…👍

🙋‍♂️ Alderney Race

Passage planning is one of the critical tasks to be performed with due diligence and maximum care. On our next leg from Cherbourg to Roscoff we will pass through the Alderney Race, an area with extreme currents. Weather and hourly timing are more crucial than ever for a “smooth” voyage through this passage to ensure a positive experience at sea.

Banc des Langoustiers has also been highlighted by fellow sailor Jan from SY Rare Breed to keep distance and good lookout as increased number of fishing vessels from France and UK can be expected in this area.

I look forward to this experience, which is very much in line with our mission: ”The mission will focus on going with the wind while enjoying time and its moments over and over again in constantly changing nature. The moment – and not the journey – will be the reward.”

We will throw the lines today at 2pm to fly with the tides…

Fair winds…

Fireworks – Bastille Day

14. July in Cherbourg 🇫🇷

Today is National Day in France and preparations for afternoon celebrations and midnight fireworks are in full swing. Grocery shops are open, which is a surprise to me. 👍

Updates via DL9BS

Dear all, I have now set-up the system to be able to provide short text updates (no photos) via HAM Radio. My HAM call sign is DL9BS. It will come into play at the time leaving teleco networks further out at sea. On the last leg from Boulogne-sur-Mer to Cherbourgh we had no telco coverage for about 20 out of the 26 hours. As we are heading more towards open sea in near future, this system shall be very handy to stay in touch. It will also support us to get updated weather information while out at sea. Fair winds…

Nose sticking out…

Our nose is a bit exposed here so I will keep the deckslight on over night just in case...
