I took an easy ride today to stroll around a bit here in Skagen and it took me towards the Northern tip of Jutland, Skagens Odde, and afterwards to Gammel Skagen.
As the late Scandinavian summer seems to be back in this part of the world, let‘s cross fingers, it will stay on for some more Boating & Biking Adventures before we allow ourselves and the lady for a winter break.
Two places were on my target list today. The splendid beaches of Nairn at the outskirts of Inverness and Fort George, a fortress build to control the Scottish Highlands but has never seen any battle. Nice ride under the sun!
I am glad we decided to stay a day longer in Fort Augustus for me to see Loch Tarpp nearby as inspired by Jan. Amazing Highland scenery although some 2.5km stretch required me to push the bike along. Fantastic 🚴♂️!
Loch Oich and its connecting river present themselves in a more diverse landscape compared to Loch Lochy, the first Loch we passed through on our journey through the Caledonian Canal from West to East. Good 🚴♂️ tarmac!
Well, Harry & Potter connects me slightly differently to my focused 🚴♂️ ride today. Apparently the Glenfinnan Viaduct is linked to fantasy around Harry Potter but my connection goes rather back to work in South Korea and a lovely dog 🐕🦺 named Potter.
Today‘s focus ride covered one of the famous Slate Islands – Easdale. It not only used to be the center of the Scottish slate industry for almost three centuries (!) but still, until today, remains the smallest of the inhabited Inner Hebrides Islands.
A more than remarkable international event taking place here are the World Stone Skimming Championships 😅 hosted every year, in September.
Under sunny conditions my last ride on the Isle of Mull took me today again around on the island to enjoy some more stunning landscape and scenery.
The weather is black and white in this part of the world. As soon as the sun comes out you will love it. In rainy conditions you damn it. Nothing special with that. The difference is that these changes are happening in hours and not in days. We slowly get used to it.
Scattered showers all day but with the help of the rain radar I was confident to get a nice coffee & cake in Salen, South of Tobermory – staying dry. Wishful thinking. The cake was excellent, the coffee average and I was wet to the skin upon arrival. My bike winter clothing kept me warm! 😅
The sky opened up for a bike ride in some spectacular landscape here in Scotland. I was looking forward to that and all pain was forgotten – a pure joy ride. You get it all on 50km with comfortable 1000m up and down.
The locals enjoy the beach at around 23°C air temperature and 14°C for the water. It is summer. Once body and mind are both accustomed to the weather, you will appreciate the magnificence of this nature even more.
