Boating & Biking Adventures

…stormy days in Neustadt…

It‘s good to be where we are! Wind is blowing 30kn plus, 8/8 cloud coverage but no rain and surprisingly warm.

After some recovery from our overnight trip we are back in boat work mode. While ticking one box off, I feel, two new items are getting added. I think this is normal during the current phase we are in but soon it should be vice versa. Two ticked off and only one new task added. That will be good.

I will make sure there is enough time for dolce vita, no worries. It feels, as if I am slowly starting to digest this journey.

The sun is back after around 11h and we are arriving just in time, well before the wind takes a more southerly, unfavorable direction later today.

Although pretty tired, this was an exciting and rewarding passage. I am glad to spend some time in Neustadt and enjoy a local  “Fischbrötchen“.

Only 100nm left to close the Boating & Biking Adventure where it all began.

The Marina in Neustadt is nicely embedded into a fjord type of arrangement. Nice, quite & friendly.

I started to monitor the traffic flow in both directions 15nm before getting close to the TSS. The traffic was heavy at that time but upon arrival three hours later, there was a good window for us to cross. I only had to deal with one bulk carrier and the Gedser-Travemünde ferry. The ferry came close but a quick call on the VHF radio provided assurance both parties are in control.

While still crossing, I got a nice wake-up message from Jan. 👍 In any case, the “Kadetrinne“ needs heavy attention, that became very clear again.

The next attraction was a lightning show over Fehmarn. Big relief it did not come closer and just stretched along our fairway. Some distant grumbling included.

Once the thunder had passed along, the wind ceased for a while but came back, not as strong as before but strong enough to shut the engine off again to enjoy a bit more slow motion sailing before sunrise.

No moon, pitch dark, plenty of stars. Less than 20nm to go.

We have passed Møns Klint in the afternoon hours under some glazy-milky clouds. There is little traffic out here at the moment, a few more sailors and two ferries passing by with a safe distance. It will change once we get closer to the “Kadetrinne”, the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) between Denmark and Germany.

I will cross this TSS after midnight South of Gedser and hope it will be less busy compared to last time, when Susan and myself had all hands full.

Fellow sailors Volker and Rainer both reminded me to keep a very sharp lookout and indeed, sailing these waters is different compared to the wide ocean.

Time for some dinner.

…too short again…

Short and intense was our three night stay at the pool position at Ofelia Beach with guaranteed unblocked view. No doubt, Copenhagen remains a #1 location for us, a great city.

We are now lonely together again as Susan is flying back today and I will slowly return the lady “home“, to Kappeln. Three weeks passed quickly.

The weather window South is closing soon and I hope to get 130 nautical miles done in the next 24 hours.

Brainwash Copenhagen

It was one of the better passages under engine we had so far, peaceful and picturesque. It included a dolphin show in the middle of the traffic separation scheme (TSS) heading into the Øresund.

At the time we reached Copenhagen, the whole world changed. We were greeted by a light weight aircraft taking off along the fairway. The “rush hour“ kept going until we took a berth opposite of the Opera House.

…I miss this already…

🇸🇪 Kullen Västra Lighthouse 🇸🇪

Soon this adventure will come to its end and I start to miss these moments already. New plans are buzzing around in the head.

A night under fire…

It was a night under fire and we could see the white, green and red sector at the same time.🧐 Must be one of the many attributes of Torekov, that you can berth that close to a lighthouse. Due to the fact that it was not flashing or blinking we got very decent sleep and are already off again to the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen.

To arrive in the right mood, Ulli, skipper SY Christina, shared a link with us. We are all set now! 😅

Fair winds…

Good Night !
