Boating & Biking Adventures

☝️…good progress…✔️

Work is progressing as per the plan.

Today I completed the Lewmar track bolt re-tightening project. Well designed by HR it was pretty easy to take relevant parts of the ceiling off across various compartments to get access to the bolt‘s nuts.

More spontaneously John helped me to check the propeller and replace one of the anodes, which was eroded down to bare minimum. He was at our pontoon cleaning another boat and quickly came over for this routine task. I owe him a couple of beers now.

Besides many other minor points, our new membranes for the water maker are now on the way to ensure best tea water going forward. Currently sitting at 400ppm I decided to replace these filter elements.

Pumpkin à la Faial…😋

I had some pumpkin left, which I got from Babs. Made a spagetti dish out of it with  ham, carrot, plenty of garlic in melted Gorgonzola, topped with Sao Jorge 12month aged cheese flakes. Pumpkin is  a good superfood with a lot of nutrients. Keeps fresh for a long time. Made for boaties. Fair winds…

☝️…buena batería…✔️

With the help of Alberto we tested all batteries today. Although I was quite convinced they are still good, they even turned out better than expected. Still doing my own research a bit on this subject. A battery breakdown at sea is like sailing an unconscious boat, theoretically still possible.

Besides this, I polished the transom this morning and organised the main halyard replacement and rig/gooseneck inspection for Monday morning. Rest of the day, my focus will be on re-tightening the bolds on the two Lewmar tracks for the foresail sheets – one port and one starboard side. For this, some of the ceiling has to be taken down.

Not boring at all but first I will have a nap now!

Fiesta Nacional de Espãna

Today is national day in Spain devoted to Columbus discovering America on 12th October 1492.  To me it was Leif Eriksson in 1021 but that can obviously be debated. What does it really matter?!? It was another sugar day in paradise.🙏

I celebrate with a good fresh tuna steak from the Pescadéria in Puerto del Carmen and a spanish red. Besides that, some projects got completed but others have opened up. As a boaty you can be happy, if the To Do List stays constant rather than getting longer every day. Fair winds…

☝️…funny weather…😉

We got some light drizzle this morning now and then each followed by some nice rainbows.

…moving on…

Chafing after 20 year and 15 thousand miles.

It seems to be peak season looking at the beach – even more populated than last year is my impression but perhaps Covid still took some tribute.
I keep working through my list. Today’s focus was on replacing some lines. While the cutter stay halyard went smoothly, the outhaul line for the main sail (see photo left) is causing some headache. It’s not the line itself but the Lewmar clutch to hold it under load in place, which is the issue now. Typical boat work: one project creates two new ones!

Plans, dreams & fellow sailors…

During a very nice coffee & cake session earlier today on SY Hullu Poro, Elke, Ulrike, Ulli and myself made plans today to meet Cornelia and Volker from SY Hexe on Azores next year. The plan was made one hour after high tide, so we have a good chance it will not be washed away! 🤞

☝️…Musa Bar – Night Walk…👌

😋 Musa Bar is a good restaurant if you want delicious Italian food and worth the extra mile🚶🏼‍♂️.

☝️…New sail arrived…👌

Our new sail arrived in no time from HR Parts in Ellös here in Puerto Calero. It took 4 days from Sweden to Lanzarote, door to door, with a weekend in between. Busy day working on the To Do List but now I will go for a nightcap to the Upper Deck Bar before calling it a day. Fair winds…

🙋‍♂️ Calero…sweet Calero 👍

It was a very warm welcome from Elke and Ulli and the courtesy of above four photos goes to Elke from SY Cristina. Also the marina team paid great attention to my arrival and even reseated the position of two cleats on the pontoon and finger to optimise our mooring lines. Never had that before. Thank you all!

Glad to be back in Puerto Calero…sweet Calero!

Fair winds & good night…
