DWD is the governmental weather institute in Germany and they have provided an excellent, accurate, state of the art weather forecast in a very timely manner and modern fashion over this crazy weather situation we have faced the last couple of weeks – simply brilliant.
From early warnings to entertaining updates fed in by the public crowd they informed in a very professional way.
With temperatures of – 13℃ and a breakdown in my diesel heating system a few days before the extreme minus temperatures it was exciting and shows how fragile you are against nature.

imagine, you work for your dream project all your life, ups and downs on the way, but you never give up and finally…you are only 90 nautical miles away from the finish line after passing 24’000 miles in toughest conditions…and murphy’s law kicks into your destiny!
This happened last night to our Trans-Ocean e.V. member Boris Herrmann when he smashed into a Fishing Trawler for whatever reasons while participating in the Vendee Globe – the ultimate race for sailors around the globe.
It is heartbreaking but the good news is that nobody got injured during this disaster and he could still finish the race on his own but became only 5th on the ranking while he was fighting for ultimate victory before the crash happened.
In any case Boris has writing sailing history and took us on an 81 days journey around the world with perfect media presentation. Well done. Thank you!
