Shaft Shark on its way…

Shaft Shark Illustration

Dear all,
to enhance safety on board we are going to install a robe cutter on our propeller shaft to cut off any lines, wires, plastic, etc. to keep the propeller free of debris and therefore spinning. There are numerous examples of catching lines while at sea and before jumping into the water to free the propeller, I hope, that this first level risk mitigation will do its job and jumping into the water remain a pure pleasure event. Delivery is from US and let’s cross fingers it will arrive sometime next week, ready to be installed at our upcoming March haul out.

The US Post tracking system works well up to now and it is interesting that the parcel is routed via Jamaica originating from Newport/RI – the US Sailing mecca. Let’s cross fingers it will arrive sometimes next week, which is the promise given.

Fusion Food / 🇮🇳 & 🇪🇺

Dear all,
I called the pizza service at my doorstep (Kanalschuppen Flensburg) and was told to wait for 90 minutes to get my dinner – long queue…good for them!
Decided to make my own dish: Tuna Tikka Marsala Pasta 😋

Bunkering Fuel & Water

1.6 km walk to the petrol station

Dear all,
although we still had tanks comfortably filled, I preferred to bunker some fuel and water over the last two days. It all has to be hand carried in canisters as outdoor water supply in the marina is cut-off during winter and weather was not in favour to throw the lines and hop over to the next petrol station, which is only a mile away or so – too much hassle. So I opted for the manual version, 200 liter of water and 184 liter of diesel – hand carried – shall bring us over the next month or two. As there are about ten live aboards here in Flensburg, it is a quite common procedure and all equipment needed is available.

Raining cats and dogs

Dear all,
greetings from Flensburg, it is raining cats and dogs now for three days and enough is enough. Luckily I have got some computer work to complete and inside the boat its dry and cozy. Anyway, looking forward for some dry days and blue sky, not even talking temperature…
