…weather briefing…

There are about ten yachts heading East towards Azores and we met for a weather briefing and get together beer last night in the White Horse Pub, the oldest Pub in Bermuda established 1930! Enjoyed each little sip of the draft Gunniness at 11 USD per pint!

The conclusion was concurrent and plays into my hands: no weather window for the next week.

The Fridge Saga

Our Fridge/Freezer unit stopped cooling again three weeks back and I had to take it positive (less power consumption) in order not to cry. I was prepared to cross the Atlantic with one unit left only rather spending time to find another mechanic.

Over a smalltalk with our neighbouring yacht I knew they were looking for an AC mechanic as he was totally without fridge on his boat.

Suddenly they turned up at our boat asking, if we still want to get it checked and after a short discussion, I decided to give it a go and hope for the miracle needed.

Cesar, the AC Specialist and Biking Hero applied a technic I have not heard off. After an initial check he concluded: leakage in the system. “Leaksavers” is the solution.

Method 2 of above product has got an 80% chance that the leakage is now fixed, potentially long term. Cross fingers.🤞

Besides that Cesar gave me insider tips on the local biking scene, Cesar is another pleasant, polite & professional person we have met here in Bermuda.

🚴‍♂️…Cooper’s Island…👍

I am still puzzled from today’s bike ride, which took me to Cooper’s Island Nation Park. Positively surprised how Bermuda & Biking harmonise it became more a strolling around type of ride caused by an amazing scenery.

☝️…cooking gas…👨‍🍳

After 4 hours boat work in the morning to get the lady cute and clean again we made our first trip on the island.

As we did run out of cooking gas on the last evening before our arrival in Bermuda, it became a priority to get our two butane/propane bottles refilled.

I know where to go and after a 2.5km walk we arrived at the RUBiS Energy Bermuda Ltd. Gas Station. The Safety Officer at the gate took care of us and after his wrinkles on the forehead slowly disappeared, it became a super nice experience. To cut a long story short, Robbie, the chief of the plant took us back to the anchorage in his car with two full bottles of propane. A lot of chatting on the way back, I think we will meet Robbie again as he offered to become our tourist guide to show us the off-the-tourist-track secrets of Bermuda. Let’s see.

In any case we got hints on the top beaches and snorkel spots. As you can see below, there is also no doubt, that Bermuda is a biking island!

We are now on the way to Bermuda. I am so excited and happy about this move! Expectations are high! Wish us Fair Winds, if you like! Bernd & Rainer

St. Martin – Marigot Bay

Back in France! At ⚓️ in Marigot Bay for final arrangements. Getting ready…⛵️

…Antigua good bye…

I would not call me a fan of Antigua but perhaps time was too short to explore the posh – poor – people mix of this island/state.

We completed our tasks from the To-Do-List and had short stop at the anchorage for a final swim. After dinner it was time for an overnight sail further North to St. Martin, our very last stop in the Lesser Antilles before heading out to Bermuda.

Looking forward to another serious ocean crossing coming up soon.
